The Not So Wild Fish Conservancy

Post by SilverT »

Washington hatchery brood stock are required to be captured from the same river system in which the hatchery is located. Hatchery salmon genetics match naturally spawning salmon genetics. The Not-So Wild Fish Conservancy lies.

Assuming the lie that hatchery genetics differ from naturally spawned genetics is true, 1% of the returning fish, every year, spawn in different rivers than those of their origin, after over 100 years of hatchery production how many wild fish are left? Biologists know. Hatchery managers know. The Not-So Wild Fish Conservancy knows.

A local charter skipper took a boat load of fish biologists from Washington, Oregon and California fishing last season. They had all worked together and quit their jobs because their ten year study that showed that improved habitat had almost no impact on existing runs in those streams was rejected. They said ten years of work was ignored and other biologists were hired with more "wild" leanings. They said, the four salmon that spawned in the habitat restored streams that they had improved were not enough to restore the runs. The streams need salmon and lots of them. The biologists were disgusted by the response from the governing biologists. Eliminating hatchery fish does nothing to improve natural runs. The NS Wild Fish Conservancy lies. Few biologists are brave enough to tell the truth.

Hatchery managers are constrained by judgements in favor of the Not-So Wild Fish Conservancy, restricting the number of salmon the hatchery may spawn and release. All extra returning, healthy, genetically identical fish are not allowed to continue upstream and spawn. They are slaughtered and not allowed to spawn at all. The runs are not allowed to grow. It is because of NS Wild Fish Conservancy lies and fearful jurisdictional biologists that Alaska's troll king season is closed.

Many hatcheries in Washington are in terrible disrepair because Washingtonians, who make great swelling claims about loving Orcas, are too cheap and disinterested to fund the operations and maintenance costs of the WDFW facilities and staff necessary to feed them. Many hatcheries in Washington could easily double production, given the staff, money and freedom from judgements based on the lies of the NS Wild Fish Conservancy to do so. Hatcheries are very expensive to maintain. The fewer the better for the folks in office.

California and Oregon have been on the "NS Wild" program for some time. The result? They are closed. The NS Wild Fish Conservancy lies.

The NS Wild Fish Conservancy should be held financially accountable for the misinformation and damage caused by their lies to the salmon runs, mammals, birds, families, and economies of so many coastal and inland towns from Alaska to California. When they are held accountable, and judges are presented with the truth, there is a chance that even Washington State's politicians won't be able to hide behind the NS Wild Fish Conservancy to starve orcas, and close hatcheries to save money. The NS Wild Fish Conservancy lies.

The Wild Fish Conservancy, however, does some great work. Those impacts are everywhere.

So much nonsense from the Wfc. The stated purpose of this lawsuit is clearly BS to anyone that can read.
