I'm looking for any experience for information on a John Deere 6068 turbo charged and rated at 240 HP.
The owner selling the boat says it gets 2.5 gallons/per hour. This must be at a lower rpm.
I tried to look up the JD 6068 marine engine on the web and can't find one rated at 240 HP. Also they all burn around 4 gallons per hour instead of what he claims.
Any help would be appreciated.
Engine has 9500 hours on it. Pretty close to a rebuild right???
Trying to be smart about this purchase and be as informed as I can be.
Thanks for any help.

Re: John Deere 6068
Mine is rated at 220 and I am about 1.5 an hour avg for the season on a 43' troller. I also run my freezer off the main. I have 14,000 hours on it and my mechanic expects another 10,000. They need a new watwr pump and a turbo throughout their entire life. User here named Salty has one and if I remember right he stated once that he had around 20k on his.
Re: John Deere 6068
Damn internet lost my detailed post.
I have a naturally aspirated 6068 with 28,000 hours. 1.1 gal per hour over season.
Changed water pump twice.
Highly recommend.

Re: John Deere 6068
I'd say anywhere from 1 to 4 gal/hr depending on how much running/ fishing, how clean the bottom of the boat is, what else is being powered (freezer compressor, hydro generator, deck hydros) and on and on.
My JD has about 15000 and I expect another 10k before a rebuild. They are quiet and fuel efficient.

Re: John Deere 6068
I have a naturally aspirated 6068 John Deere in my troller. I get an average of 1.1 gal/hour with my engine over the course of a calendar year (both trolling and running). I just finished changing-out my cooling water pump [with a spare pump previous owner had on the boat] after approximately 5,000 hours of use. My hour meter has just over 24,000 hours. In the last few days I spoke with another troller who recently installed a turbo-charged 6068 JD in his steel 40 foot troller and he said he gets 1.2 gal/hour.
I would highly recommend the 6068 John Deere for a fishing boat engine. After years of operating multiple boats with 2-cycle Jimmys - I appreciate the quieter engineroom and improved fuel efficiency. I have not heard any substantive complaints from anyone about the 6068 series in workboats.

I agree with JKD.
Re: John Deere 6068
Turbo JD 4045 here (130hp pre-powertech model), just thought I'd offer my first season's fuel numbers for a reference point. Running hull speed (6.1 kts), 1.7 gph. Running .5 knot below hull speed, 1.3 gph. Trolling coho was .34 gph - all day, every day. Total hours on my unit are unknown.
A hard lesson the previous owner taught me, much to my chagrin - do NOT use cheap Chinese knockoff injectors (or any other parts, I'd venture) in these engines. OEM units are worth the premium.
