I am in an awkward situation. I am currently in the army and am in the process of being medicaly retired. I have been a commercial fisherman my whole life. I have mostly fished salmon, albacore and live fish out of california but have participated in a few other fisheries in a few other places as well. Here is my predicament. I need to find somebody who is willing to work out terms with me. I don't have enough cash to buy a boat outright. The plus side is that I will get 3 grand every month no matter what so I would still be able to make a payment if it's a crap season. I am looking for something that is big enough to fish albacore as well as salmon. I feel a little weird asking this but I need to get into a rig. Thanks

Don't hold me to this, but there may still be a fish buyer with the means to back you. I would recommend writing and then calling Pierre at Jessie's Ilwaco Fish Company. Sort of an introductory letter saying you'll call later. He was hurt last season by the recent formation of AAFA (albacore). Where I used to see boats on a 1-3 day waiting list to unload, last year there were days and days where the space beneath his hoists was empty.

It wouldn't hurt to try and cultivate a relationship like we had in the olden days with fish buyers willing to back a fisherman in return for their product.

Still looking for a boat? I might be able to hook you up with a small fixer.
