My daughter wants a kayak to put on the boat this summer. So I am looking for a sit on top single or tandem kayak preferably used. My boat is in Craig but will be going thru Ketchikan in a few weeks. If anyone knows of any in those areas please let me know info and contact number. Otherwise any dealers in area?

Thanks,

Joe

nucanoe sent mine up to Craig on AML for me

They're not sit on top, but I've been looking at getting two of these. Hard to beat the price. I think they do also make a sit on top version.

Some thoughts from someone who's kayaked and fished in SE Alaska since the mid 70s:

Don't trade safety for convenience. Sit on top kayaks are for warm waters unless you lay out big bucks for a drysuit. Short boats are slow and too easy to overload. The photos at Nucanoe' website scare me as I think of the difference between their flat lakes and the waters around Craig.

Get her a plastic or fiberglass hardshell with a sprayskirt that fits, and you won't worry every time she paddles off. This style of kayak was developed in Alaska by the Aleuts. Seem to be lots of used ones in every SE town I've been in..

Ya we have talked about that and still are thinking about what style to get. We just want one to go to shore at quiet anchorages and walk the beach. Neither of us are daredevils and want to paddle out in the open ocean, I also know that bad things happen in calm waters also.

Glad to hear there may be some used ones also!

I went to SE Ak once and the nucanoe was pretty fun. I guess I'm glad I didn't look at their scary web site first.
