I've purchased and installed several forward-looking cameras for trollers wanting to drive from their pit. 35 dollar webcams mounted in the cabin are not good enough for spotting boats for two reasons. 1 - their resolutions aren't as good as professional cameras. 2 - and more importantly, Webcams and most security cameras are wide-angle which is great for close-up portrait shots on Skype and guarding an entry way with one camera, but they lose detail after about 10 meters - even HD wide-angle cameras like GoPros do this.

The best solution I've found for the price are the Ubiquiti outdoor AirCams. They are waterproof, designed for detail at a distance, and are both powered and communicate over a single Ethernet cable.

I currently have 1 brand new camera and an extra long cable for mounting it high in the rigging. I will sell it for what I paid - 100$. If you're in Sitka, my business Sitka Tech can install it. We do all things Computer and 12 volt related.

Also, Send me a message if you're at all interested in camera or lighting installation before the summer season. We are going to make a bulk order on cameras, LED spot/flood lights for night travel, and LED lighting for decks and cabins if there's interest.

I'm interested, I have a Cabella's IR underwater camera on a 50 ft chord that I've installed on the back deck (to keep an eye on my 14yo grandson/deckhand/fish cleaner) since I haven't found a way to make a proximity detector so I know if he goes overboard while I ....navigate. A forward looking camera would be nice. Send me a pm and maybe I can use it so he and I can see forward. Whojigger@Yahoo.com F/V Nirvana

I'm also, as we speak, changing out the nav lights and would think about replacing my forward eyeballs and back deck flood with LEDs (along with my anchor light) if the price is right. send me a pm. F/v Nirvana whojigger@yahoo.com
