Hasbra Gurdies - Odd Request

Hi All;

I am not a fisher but I happened across a new set of two 3-spool Hasbra Gurdies that are new in the original shipping carton. They have of course never been used. No valves or motors. I don't know how old they are but I was told they were purchased for $7,500 EACH, or in other words $15,000 for the set. Does that sound right--it seems pretty high to me?

Would anyone be kind enough to let me know the best way to sell these in the San Francisco Bay Area? And what a realistic value for the set might be? Thanks for any help in advance.

Not an odd request @ all......that Is probably a legitimate price from the factory. Unless you can find the just right person you might have a difficult time selling them @ that price. Especially without the valves & motors. New Charlynn motors retail about $350.00- 400.00, & control valves are about $ 550.00-600.00 ea. Factory rebuilds of a couple other brands , which are almost like new run around $11,000 with valves/motors. A little more from another brand. In our market In these parts (S.E. Alaska), Is roughly around $4,000.00- 7,600.00 for rebuilt, with valves/motors. Depending much on the brand, how critical the buyers needs them & how much the seller wants to get rid of them. By the way the Hastings Foundry Canada, Is again producing parts for Hasbra gurdies on a somewhat limited basis.

Hope that helps you......I believe there are a couple fellows down your way that rebuild gurdies....One maybe In the Bodega Bay area & I think also Ft. Bragg. Good luck.

Thanks fvsedna, I appreciate the information. I was definitely not expecting to sell for original price, just wanted to get a ballpark on value.

Do you think $10k would be a reasonable price? Assuming the new owner would have to pay $1500-2000 in valves and motors, that would be $12k for a brand new setup. They're of no use to me and I just want to get what I have into them back.

Is there a web site that would cover the SF Bay Area? Craigslist doesn't seem to be too busy with fishermen. Would posting here make sense?

Thanks again for your assitance.

Hello CC...

Posting here makes great sense....trollers from your area to Yakutat frequent this site regularly It seems. I do not know what price would be tolerable for a new set of 3 spool Hasbras would be for the California coast. I think they would be hard to sell for that here........But, the manufactures ask that & more & are still producing so, they must be moving them somewhere. CC on this site If you return to the main Board Index page...then scroll down to the subject labeled "Getting Started"......when on that page scroll down the the thread called " Anybody rebuild gurdys?.."...there Is a little chit chat there that reveals some Info on Guys (names & a phone number), rebuilding gurdies In your area....they might be good contacts for someone looking for a set like yours.....& what they may be worth. Also, there Is a Oregon coast website:(www.salmontrolling.com) ,that has vessels, permits, links & a free classified you might find some Info. or post your set there.....I hope you do well with them ..good luck ...

Andrew
