Have those been hot tanked or did some hillbilly just annihilate them with a wire brush/wheel?

This is a little off topic but maybe you could explain "hot tanking" so the "hill billies" can be better informed. I have a set of gurdies I would like to restore myself. Where do you get the hot tanking done and does it take complete disassembly? Thanks.

Hot tanking can be done at any engine rebuilder and/or machine shops. It is a heated chemical bath that strips all non-metal material off, and some softer metals like bearings don't fare well. So, complete disassembly is required to get the most bang for your buck. Any seals, gaskets, etc. that are left on the parts prior to hot tanking won't be worth anything when they come out, if they make it out at all.

They are not hot tanked, just buffed up...not "annihilated"....nor are we "hillbillies"!

The gurdies look very nicely done in the picture and I am sure you took care in restoring them. Rico at Hastings Foundry (who manufacture Hasbra gurdies) rebuilt my Hasbras using buffing and dry sanding and I wouldn't call him a "Hillybilly". Hot tanking is new to me that's why I, as a " Hillbilly" asked. I hope you get them sold it looks like you did a great job. Gotta go my moonshine is boiling over.
