Comnav compatability with smaller boat

Does anybody have any knowledge about the effectiveness at troll speeds of a comnav 1001 or 2001 on a smaller boat with a planing style hull? I'm thinking about installing an autopilot system for trolling only on my 27' seasport, but I want to make sure that I'll end up with something that works well before I go through the cost of an install. Any advice is appreciated.

I just installed a comnav 1001 on a 38 ft monk and it was amazingly easy, So far everything seems to be working fine the dockside set up of the unit is a fairly simple task. I recently installed two simrad helm pilots in my 25 ft Farralon which has a very similar hull to your boat, The first thing I will say is don't buy simrad there junk , The first one didn't even make it past the break water before it quit and two months later after spending the king opener and most the summer steering with a homemade pvc tiller and no pilot they sent me the replacement which lasted a week before the wires corroded out of the back of their waterproof to 1 meter hand held controller. One problem I found on boats that size is when you have the leverage of your wires pulling in heavy current the pilots have a hard time keeping up. I was trolling four wires and found it was muchless stressful on the pilot to suck both your heavies into the davit while running one side and the same with the float lines. Maybe a comnav wont have the same handling problems but most everybody I know trolling these smaller boats seem to have the same complaints. Most guys I know swear by Comnav . Good luck.
