I was wondering if anybody has been around a Roberts boat that has been setup for power trolling? This one has twin 453 detroits. Don' know if you could troll off just one engine or not. Any experience or knowledge would be helpful. Thanks

Trollers often troll on one engine when they have two. Larry Calvin on the Morning Mist comes to mind.

For 10 years I trolled Alaska on my 60-footer using both 471 GM's. I have to say that other boats who came close drew my fish away. But with that size troller I couldn't maintain steerage w/o both engines. Without a doubt my scores diminished trolling on one engine, alone or not. Didn't take me long to learn that if I fished away from the fleet, I could be a highliner. In other words, when I was the only game in town, I was high boat. Yet sometimes better than the Fairweather fleet.

I wouldn't be afraid of a Roberts twin screw. There's so much other stuff. Wheel size and pitch. Electric lines. Vibration..

I honestly feel I overcame the twin screw myth that you can't troll effectively.

Don't let that particular issue hold you back.

I'd think the only problem would be steering at low speeds,. as far a catch rate, there's so many variables, location, noise, the correct gear/speed, voltage, and most important...are you holding your mouth correctly???
