So I hear that the small spoons fish well behind a hotspot, but what could be the correct tail leader length?? Same as a hootchie, or something different?? Who has the info on this?

There are a lot of theories on running a spoon behind a flasher, dodger, fish flash, etc. Some like to have a spoon light enough so the flasher rotates. Others like a dodger type waving action to move the spoon back and forth without rotating.
I have fished numerous types over the years and there is a picture of me and a sport caught Chinook on a Pt. Defiance spoon run behind a dodger somewhere on this site. The best combination I ever experienced was with the mini-hotspots and a Pt. Defiance spoon sport fishing. A friend of mine just killed us with that rig. I bought a bunch for the July opening and put heavier hooks and leaders so they would hold up. They did not fish with the heavier gear. Over the years I have experimented with various combinations from 27" to 72" and different flashers and dodgers. What I like, without getting into too much detail, is a flasher and spoon, leader and speed combination that rotates for a while and then dishes (waves) for a second or two and then rotates for a while more. When I found this combination it increased my production significantly.
Good luck, hope this helps.
