I reworked my gears and talked to the Wood Freeman people in Washington and Texas some years back.

we use 'varsol' for our wood freeman compass to get the bubbles out.we squeeze it in with a 'puppy feeding' bottle with a basketball air needle inserted in the nipple part to put the oil in.

Thanks for the response. Not sure what Varsol is. Is that readilly available at a hardware store?

For small bubbles less than a silver dollar in size use Ronson Lighter Fluid. it comes in a blue and yellow can.

For bubble larger than a silver dollar in size use Cheveron DSB 410B. this is a highly refined kerosene that has no oder.

For persistant leaks send the compass direct to WOOD FREEMAN 2180 69th ave w, Tacoma WA 98466 ask for a quote first

DO NOT USE ANY OTHER OILS OR FLUIDS IN THE COMPASS AS IT MAY DISOLVE THE GLUE OR GRAZE THE COMPASS TOP!

Catwhisker repairs are also available from Wood Freeman.
