I have a 25 ft farralon troller that weighs in at about 11k currently it has a 350 with a velvet drirve with 1.52-1 gear. Pushed by a 14x16 prop

I get about 9 knots cruise, Which is about as fast as I want to go. I am planning on putting a four cylinder diesel approx 130=150 hp. Iam not sure of the best gear ratio to match with that engine . or prop size . The boat has an 8ft beam and drafts 3foot The narrow beam really wont allow for the weight of a straight six like a cummins 5.9. I don't really need that much engine any way. Any engine and transmission recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Tony Athens, Seaboard Marine in Oxnard California has done a lot of these and has used the 5.9 Cummins in the 25 foot Farallon quite successfully. http://sbmar.com/Articles.cfm

He has been available to discuss the conversations with folks. Check him out on the web and give him a call. Search the link that I gave you or do a search on his name, "Tony Athen Marine".

He is the GURU!

Check out the Perkins Sabre line, inline four, really great little motor. The natural aspirated engine is not quite 130 hp, but close, I think that the model with a turbo gets really close to 130. Or you might want to take a look at an isuzu, they make some great motors for smaller boats. Good luck

Sisu makes a 4 cylinder, 130hp, 490lb engine. The new version looks good. I have the prior generation six in my boat and have been very pleased with it. Dave Grant was a great guy to work with.
