Ah, these youngsters thinking that telling you about something equals a gift of same. Or that there are any real secrets in this business. Or that revealing a little bit gives away the bank.
I was just thinking that the generation coming along with the private satellite phones, text messaging, confidential e-mail communications on our boats, scrambled radios, 2 meter, citizen band, etc. are not exposed to the real deception when everyone had to communicate on the open channels and disguise the excitement in their voices or provide a little bit of mis-information to conceal the locale and extent of the bite.
I was thinking of some of the masters of that like Jim on the Zarembo or Dagwood on the Sultan. No way I ever figured out when they were on fish. Then there were others who no matter how sophisticated their codes would spill the beans just from the tenor in their voices. Or some that just by their silence revealed that they were busy.
Of course the easy ones are the ones who think their communications are secure when they are not. Like some of us who used to think that the boat side of the Marine Operator was secure. After I learned about how nearly anyone could listen into my phone conversations and secured the technology so I could listen to both sides I found myself informing others who fished in the area that their candid conversations with their wives were not "private". Led to some red faces like when Radar Dave in Elfin Cove explained it to me.
Off to plan how to improve the troll share of the hatchery harvest.

Ok Salty,
This site is getting to be worse than the shopping channel. I just bit and ordered this hi-tec coffee machine. I hope this isn't some type of Madoff style Ponzi scheme to bilk innocent fishermen out of their meager life savings. From what I understand this thing is going to improve everything from my sex life to my haphazard King catching ability. Knowing that this valuable bit of caffeine paraphenelia has your seal of approval, I have no doubt that I'll be 100% totally satisfied or you'll personally refund my money (plus shipping). Looking forward to a good cuppa Java, Codfoot

I just had a cup prepared by the originator of this thread. It was tasty and rivaled if not surpassed my wife's freshly ground and prepared cup according to none other than the famous Richie Davis. I don't know about the sex life but since drinking a cup I have been filling out my NCAA basketball brackets, forwarding e-mails regarding HB 134, feeding the birds, planning the chum troll efforts for the upcoming NSRAA meeting, planning the next week of feverish activity trying to get the boat ready for the hot upcoming spring chinook bite, editing grandson pictures for the Picasa web album, updating my Yahoo account, finishing my taxes, and cleaning my room.
Good coffee!!!

my my times have changed
I still remember seeing my skipper standing in the wheel house door one foot resting on the open stove door a cup of thick black coffee in one hand a merit in the other. the coffee sat all day on the stove simmering away. that kind of coffee makes you stronger (if the heart burn doesn't kill you).
We just boil water and make one cup at a time, coffee makers take up counter space and will hit the deck if their not bolted down.

Gas boat coffee with the grounds in the bottom and a quick shake over the side to replace them with the new ones usually ground months previously. Ann Taylor on the Gloria out of Petersburg made some of the best in the fleet.
But since we expect consumers to be choosing the best wild salmon on the planet we are also conscious of choosing quality coffee grown organically, freshly ground, and exquisitely prepared with the latest greatest technology. Bungie cords secure the coffee maker quite effectively after cleaning up the grounds from the galley floor a few times.
Warning!! I was up past midnight after drinking that cup of coffee in the afternoon.

I agree. My catch rate goes up 50 percent if I don't forget the coffee. I have had to resort to coffee crystals on a cookie--alot---but 50 percent is worth it! I am not familiar with catch rates on the gormet coffee.---davy
