One thing I've learned in this business , you'd better be ready for bad turns in the economy.....
bananas do make ok hoocthies
always check the dumpsters when the cruise ship's leave
as far as new wire goes... splice splice young man
get a big set of oars?
drift every night to save fuel
eat fish, breakfast lunch dinner until you puke
take the crew out to mcdonalds every month or so, to increase moral
buy box wine.... lol
any other cost saving ideas?
Add water to your fuel to getter better mileage.
Get a folding propellor and raise a 60sq ft parafoil kite on your downwind tack.
Drink that box wine and stay in your bunk the next day. Saves an entire days expenses.
Paint black dots on your coho's that are longer than 28" and sell them to an unwitting tender as kings.
When your crew is about to be sick from their once-a-month mcdonalds excursion, make them raid the kitchen for used cooking oil. Haul it back to the boat and dump it in your fuel tank. Make sure to place a BIODIESEL bumper sticker on your pilot-side window or it won't work.

Use your stabilizers as rarely as possible as they increase drag and increase fuel consumption.
Stop using ice for ballast as it takes energy to produce it, it increases drag, and you or your crew will need to eat more to replenish the calories used shoveling it out.
Slow down when in circle drags as it will reduce your fuel consumption and slow down the whole circle thereby reducing fuel consumption of everyone on the drag (except perhaps for the acceleration when they are trying to ram you and you are taking evasive action).
Extend your trips to 7 or 8 days thus reducing the fuel spent running in and returning to the grounds repeatedly.

You could always rip out the diesel, and install a boiler. Steam engines ran the world for a lot of years, and Firewood is free.
The real plus comes from the off season. With the boiler and all the copper line you got a pretty good start on a still conversion, For those of us who aren't in to box wine, guaranteed to be the most popular boat in any harbor. :D
5200 works on x-tra tuff holes. ;)
