double enders

We have been looking at some pictures of a 40 ft double ender for sale. (wood). It looks like it's worth looking at. We will have to travel south to check it out, and before we do I wanted to ask this question; Since the cockpit on most double end trollers is naturally less wide than a round or square stern boat, could that be a problem with two people back there working the gear at the same time? Do you tend to bump elbows or get in each others way? We are used to having more room than that, and are wondering about it. How has it worked for those of you that have a double ender? Thanks.

Belated happy new to everyone!

Hi John

As you know my biat has a fat stearn, you don't have as much room as in say Jimmy's boat however it is easy to land fish off of, and with you and Wendy if you are looking in the 40 foot plus class there is plenty of room for the 2 of you. The only prob I have with the stearn of Carol W is the stearn post sometime.

I heard the China Cove is still for sale you might give Randy a call. Give me a call later this week.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the reply.

Have talked to a couple of people that have double enders, and walked around the harbor looking at some. I don't think it will be a problem at all. Not as much room as we are used to, but I think we can adapt just fine.

I do know about the China Cove. Believe it or not this boat is in even better condition. The owner loves wood boats and knows how to take care of them. I found out about it by word of mouth. It isn't advertised yet anywhere. (and I'm keeping it a secret). It's a former Canadian troller that hasn't fished in 12 years, just been used as a cruiser. It's beautiful inside and out. Still has alum. poles although they have been shortened. Easy to fix that. Needs gurdies and a hayrack. Has a Gardner engine, which I hear are very fine engines, and very economical. Going down next week to take a look at it.

Will call you next week Tom. (maybe I'll be looking for a running partner in a couple of months.)

Hope your boat project is going well.
