Does anyone have info on the forecast for the upcoming spring and summer king salmon abundance or quotas?
I just read a news report that the biologists are predicting a huge king salmon return on the Colombia river.

Here are the very preliminary numbers for the Columbia from WDFW for the fish we tend to catch:
Lower River Hatchery Stock – LRH
2008 return was as predicted – about 55,900
Jack return similar to last year
2009 return should be an improvement over the past three years
Lower River Wild Stock – LRW
2008 return was better than predicted – the minimum natural spawn escapement goal is expected to be achieved
2009 return may be slightly improved over 2008 but still below average
Bonneville Pool Hatchery Stock – BPH
2008 return slightly greater than the predicted return of 86,200
Poor return of jacks – similar to returns in early 1990s
2009 return may be half the 2008 return
Upriver Bright Stock – URB
2008 return is similar to the 10-year average of 233,000
Average return of jacks
2009 return should be considerably greater than 2008 return
Mid-Columbia Bright Stock – MCB
2008 return was as predicted – about 56,600
2009 return will be similar to 2008 return
Total Columbia River Fall Chinook
2008 return of over 400,000 fish was double the 2007 return
2009 return may be close to one-half million fall Chinook
