SE Hatchery Chinook mark rate

Reading some info online I found an article ([url=http://www.ssraa.org/10_yr_troll_sum.htm][url]http://www.ssraa.org/10_yr_troll_sum.htm) that says the mark rate of SE Hatchery Chinook is only 10%. With a 90% unmarked rate it would seem that there are more SE hatchery chinook being harvested in both the winter and spring fisheries than the data would suggest. Are non marked alaska hatchery fish being counted towards or subtracted from the treaty qouta.

Thanks Jon for this great site and all the others that contribute I have learned so much.

The tagging rate is known for each facility and the samples are calculated to reflect that rate. So, if you catch one tagged fish from a facility in SE tagging 10% of their Chinook then that fish represents 10 SE Alaska Hatchery fish.

There is also a consideration for survival differences, if any, between tagged and untagged Chinook from the facility. Give Brian Lynch a call in Petersburg if you really want to know how this is all calculated.

I had no idea that for each marked fish, 9 others were also released from the hatchery. I just thought there weren't many hatchery fish. Thanks for the information.
