Need Photos

Hi All:

As always, I'm on a quest for photos I can use in documents or on the web. It's harder than you might think to find 'the right' shots. Need those that are free from blood or gore - show exceptional quality of product being handled gently - nice/clean/well maintained boats - and fun photos of fishing families and communities. All that, and good lighting/pic quality, too.

There are some nice shots on this site! Those of you who have photos on here, would you mind sending me a private message if you would allow ATA to use them? If there are people in the photos, I'll need their permission as well, so would appreciate contact information. And, if you are harboring some really great shots on your computers, I'd appreciate getting some of those as well. Historic photos of boats, fishing towns, and people (with any information you have about the photo) would also be really cool.

My use of photos is not to sell anything - well, obviously our membership brochure solicits membership, but beyond that, I am just looking for ways to positively highlight trolling and trollers to the public.

If you want a photo credit, let me know that, too.

Thanks for any help you can lend!

Dale,

Do you prefer boats, scenery, or dead fish? Would you like some from the 40's and 50's

Well, that worked so well I think I will try another one. Would you like some pictures of the ATA Board meeting? How about some portraits?

Thanks, Eric - these are beauty!

What I'm looking for...

Boats, fish, scenery, people - portraits, serious fishing, or fun shots, communities, processing plants, basically - anything. Women and families would be great and ASMI has proven that seeing them out there is interesting to people - just avoid small children shots that appear to be child labor versus being cute or obviously old enough to be deckhands. Historic photos would be very cool and give us lots of options. Scenic pictures from the fishing grounds, which highlight that this fishery is spread out over a big ocean and not 'industrial' tells an interesting story.

It is important that there is NO blood/gore on fish, people, or boats. Just looks nasty. And, think of it this way, the cattle industry doesn't show you the stun gun or dead animal. They show you lovely pastoral settings with happy cows, or a tasty steak sizzling on a designer plate. Most people are disconnected from where their food comes from and the reminder is a kind of painful for the squeemish.

Boats looking shipshape provide the image of cleanliness and wholesomeness and project an industry heading into the future, even while we respect our past.

Pictures like that gorgeous scales shot can be nice backdrops if they aren't too busy.

Again, thanks so much for responding to the call!

Dale,

Is this the kind of stuff you might want? I think, now that I am learning how to post these that I will put them on the photo site or upload them to my own site.

How do you like that chum? Pretty typical of what we are catching here.

Right on!

Eric, you have some beauty shots! I had to do a double take on that chum... those brights often look like sockeyes to me on first take. Sometime you'll have to tell me what you're shooting with - the light and clarity in these photos is really nice. Thanks!

You and Ed Hansen may have found your second calling.=)

Here are some of my photos. Please let me know if you enjoy them.

What I have posted here are some grouped by subject, boats, fish, etc. I have some folders on the computer that are a picture story. Usually about 15 photos that tell a story. Anyone interested?

Very nice pics...#17 & 24 are my favorites.Don't get me wrong though,There isn't a pic on this forum that doesn't get me all "jacked up".

I tried to upload a pic of a nice 10 & a 11 1/2 lbs winter blackmouth I caught last week, but somehow I lost the uploaded pics....BTW.. The Donna C renamed Pt.Defiance is in Sitka .Any thoughts on rigging or a hold for that hull, if you happen to walk by would be very much well received.

Thanks Clete

A very good friend of mine owns the boat. His brother Chris lives up in Sitka.I don't remember the past owners name.He was an older guy who ran tugs for years and the boat was in Tacoma.

Hello Everyone...

I am really enjoying all the photos you're sharing - please keep 'em coming!

If I use these photos and don't cite (include your name) them to you, please let me know if it's a problem and I'll correct it. So far, no one has asked me to attach their name and doing so a delicate balance, trying to get a clean looking publication, while also giving adequate thanks to those who donate.

Your contributions are very much appreciated and you have my word that they will not be used in a negative way, or to raise money for anything but ATA.

Happy Thanksgiving! I'll add your generosity to my 'Give Thanks For' list.=)

Cheers...

If it's the boat I'm thinking of, the Donna C used to be owned by Frank and Donna Caldwell, who, in addition to a long and productive career as trollers, are accomplished photographers. Frank has published a number of books on trolling, like Pacific Troller. He has also published historical books on mining, SPC, etc. Currently, he seems to have turned his interest to fiction. The Caldwell's are well-traveled and amazing people - never miss an opportunity to chat them up!

Thanks for sharing the new identity of the Donna C. I'd hate to pass her on the dock and not pay my respects.

OH... I believe all previous owners of the Donna C have been ATA members. Just a thought.=)

Happy Thanksgiving!
