I plan to fish solo a lot this coming season and am looking at adding an autotether kill switch to my arsenal of safey gear. It will take a bit of wiring to make the autotether work for my 671 (which has a manual pull-cord kill switch) but I understand that can be done through the installation of a fairly standard outboard-style kill switch and solenoid actuator to do what my pull-cord currently does. Before I start that project, I thought I'd see if anyone has made such an install or has experience with this unit or other man-overboard kill-switches and if so, how has it worked for you?

I installed the autotether in my 26 foot gas volvo penta powered troller. I ordered the kit that included the kill switch because my boat did not have the kill switch installed. Easy to install and wire in to my boat. The kill switch could be wired normally open, or normally closed, depending on the ignition system. Not sure how to wire on a diesel with a pull cord system. The only problem I have had is the fob that kills the engine. I usually just put it in my front pants pocket and when I lean against the rail it stops the engine. It usually takes a few seconds to realize why the engine quit, then I run into the cabin and hook up the tether and restart the engine. I need a better way to wear the fob. But yes, it does work.

I also bolted some bars to use as a ladder onto the transom on the boat. That way I can step up on the outdrive, and then use the bars to climb onto the boat. Can't think of too many things worse that sitting in the water and not being able to get up into the boat.
