Please pass the word to any trollers fishing out of Sitka to not anchor in Whiting Harbor.Whiting Harbor is located in Western channel area right by the airport runway. There currenty is an invasive species D.VEXILLUM in the harbor area.We need to minimize inadvertenly spread it by anchoring there.D.vex can spread over the bottom wiping out local bottom flora. It can be a real bad deal as proven in other places it took hold.

Most guys don't use this as a harbor very much but its one of those"just gota get out of town" spots.

Great point, John!

The legislature is considering a bill that would allow a faster response by the state when invasive aquatic species are found. That will be more important now than ever, because of all the Japanese tsunami debris that's winding up on our shores. This is a significant and costly problem around the country and Alaska is having more trouble all the time.
