Nobeltech software

Question for Nobeltech users in the fleet. I was cruising the Nobeltech website and noticed verion 11 will no longer be supported after 2014. It seems there is a move to convert all users to there new and improved Trident (Admiral 11) or Odyssey (VNS 11) and Catch (Bathy). Was the Nobeltech seminar in Sitka this winter (Dec 2012) a hands-on for version 11 or a sales invite for the new software? How was the seminar? Any feed back between the two versions would be grateful. Jon any insight on building a computer package to run nobeltech v11 and bathy program? or wiser to upgrade to the newer versions?

A nobeltec rep will be in Sitka around the 21st of February to do installs and classes introducing the newest software versions. I will find out when and where the classes will be held and post here.

I cant comment on older versions but I purchases the odyssey last year along with a new laptop with plenty of memory. Installation went smooth but when I went to plug in the antenea the laptop bluescreened and then shutdown! I was told that I needed basicly the best "gamers" computer that kids use for high tech video games! So another 1,000 dollars down the drain. It is not really any different than the older versions and the 3-D I dont think is too impressive. If I had to do it over again I probably would have just used a Lowrance with a 10" screen that I already had.

I attended the workshop. My take is that nobeltec is encouraging all of us to upgrade to the new software versions. I highly recommend attending workshops, classes, and if possible hands on experience with the new software during a workshop or on a vessel with someone experienced with the software and hardware. The new software in my opinion is incredibly powerful and opens a whole new world of bottom mapping, drag configuration, and fish/vessel plotting to small boat fishermen. I think training and support is essential for most of us.

I am lucky in that I have incredible young friends who are into this stuff and baby me along. Also, I am a known "early adopter" type personality who is willing to learn. I have not upgraded yet.

I never had any experience actually installing older versions, but many hours operating a vessel with older version. The mapping is pretty much the same and features are the same as well. Nobeltec told me they had no choice but to change the ways they do things on their end. I cant remember if they said they purchased or were purchased by another company. I can see where there could be some uses for Pot Fisherman or Longliners trying to set in a small area or on sides of ledges for Prawns. I feel that in the end it is a lot of extra money for not that much more of a better product than older versions. I am sure as previous posters said a Nobeltec Class would be smaret to take!
