Is anyone familiar with the Sundowner?

I've been looking on line at a 53' Skookum boat, the Sundowner. My goal is to salmon fish in the summer up in SE and do albi's of the WA coast before heading in for the fall/winter. My concern is the amount of space on the back deck, and if it would be adequate for freezing. I'd appreciate any input as I'm trying to decide if it's worth the time and money to go look at it.

Many Thanks,

Joe

I've been on it before but it was many years ago. I dont know how the hold is set up or how many lbs it holds but there is plenty adequate deck space for trolling. As with all boats that have a large portion of space allocated to living quarters, you sacrifice some of your work space but I suppose if your going to be freezing perhaps it would be nice to have the extra accommodations for being away from town on long trips. The focsle is cavernous and very comfortable. The boat has always been kept in fairly nice shape although I believe it has been leased out in recent years. Maybe that's a good thing and the renters have done maintenance. I havent seen it around in several years.

I grew up trolling on the Blelinda V which is also a skookum 53 although the house may be a bit further forward on it. That boat never had any issues with deck space or hold volume. It was a longliner back in the derbys.

There used to be a youtube video up taken from aboard the Sundowner. It was a rescue of a crew from a boat that sank off of Yakobi I.

Here it is:

Should give you a rough idea of the deck layout.

I've been in the boat. It's well set up. And, as you've probably noticed theres not many similar boats. Go take a look.
