Went to go trolling this weekend and when I turned on my old dell laptop all the information (tracks, marks etc.) are completely gone from the last 4 years!!! Nobletec looks like it defaulted back to factory settings. Is there any way to get back all the information that is not showing? Thanks to anyone that can help!

1.Take your back-up thumbdrive or disc that you have been diligently backing up all your data on, insert it into the computer and re-load it. Oops, like most of us, you did not religiously back up all your data until you lost it all at least once, so for you this does not help. For all of the rest of you, including me for this season, go down to your boat today and back up all your marks, data etc. on a thumb drive. I actually keep two computers going on the boat and move data back and forth so if one crashes while fishing I can immediately switch via a KVM switch to the other one.

2. I will try and walk you through a possibility that they are still all there:

Open your program to your chart page:

Go to File>chart table>objects> (Boundaries, marks, etc.) and make sure all the marks are checked.

Double left click on the marks and you should see your stored marks come up on the right.

3. Call nobeltec support if the above does not work.

4. Call your partners that you share data with and see if they will share back. Another good reason for good partners.

Finally, it might be time to upgrade. I seldom make a mark, that I keep more than a day anymore. Modern fishing and mapping technology does this all automatically for you. You still have to save the accumulated data in a couple of spots, including one off the boat, or in the cloud, so if you lose the boat or lose data due to sinking or fire you can retrieve it.

Good luck! I have lost data, had computers crash and lost programs and all. So, I mostly am diligent about backing up. I keep photos on two external hard drives and in the cloud now.

I tried both suggestions and neither worked. I'm still clinging to Nobeltec 5 and it doesn't have some of the options listed in suggestions from above. For some reason my back up files were deleted. Nobeltec support won't even barely talk to you if you're not using Nobeltec 10 or above. They (Nobeltec Support) weren't helpful.

This may be a long shot question - Do you live in Sitka? If so, contact Dave Pizar at Media Rare here in town at 907-747-0686. He is not the type you call and troubleshoot over the phone. You can call to get directions to his place. Once there, if there's anyone in this town that can perform miracles on computers, it is him. He has saved two of our systems from the dead. DO NOT go to the Alaska Computer Store in Sitka - 100% sure you'll be told it is fried and need to buy something of theirs. If you don't live in Sitka and feel comfortable to post what town you are in, maybe one of the folks on this site can provide a local tip - good luck. My sure fire back up are my dog-eared paper charts on board at all times. Believe it or not, I transfer depth discrepancies to those and have yet to have one "crash".

Darn it, I was hoping a couple of those ideas would work. Nobeltec 5, wow. It was a good version. I started in about 92 or so with Navtrek which I got free to test. The best version for me has been 9.3 if you can still find it. Now, since Furuno owns Nobeltec, they want you to upgrade to "Times Zero". I have gone to the training sessions for it and have looked it over with some friends that have invested. It definitely is the way of the future. But, a lot of bells and whistles for me.

Eric V has good advice except that I would say I have had wonderful service over the years from Alaska computer center. Good, friendly, quick service. Eric Holmgren, at Current Navigation is also a great source about, and sells, nobeltec products.

Good luck.
