Experience With LED Lighting?

I recently purchased the Apex and I have a major re-wiring project for this winter as a survey Recommendation to resolve. Besides installing a contemporary breaker panel system for all 12VDC uses, I am considering replacing 1970s cabin and engineroom lighting fixtures with LED units. I have no past experience with LED fixtures (aside from some nice flashlights) so I was curious about the LED experiences of others on workboats - both pro and con. As long as we are at it - any experiences with LED decklights?

Thanks Mydona, Very good report. I can say I have been using my Rigid LED amber lights quite a bit this fall. While they do not light up the sky, they sure do help spot logs, kelp etc, and are good for eyeballing the beach when anchoring. I have a spot and a flood. Be sure to put something underneath to keep them from shining on your bow. Used mine one night behind the Island to help a guy find a spot to anchor in a bit of a chop.

Using the "mydona" suggestion above - I took some time and used the search mode here and found the thread from last spring titled "Spotlights?". There was a good discussion of LED use and a couple of good links provided. I especially appreciated "fvsedna" posting the link to "www.marinebeam.com". This outfit seems to be intent on providing quality US-made products and have provided good information for anyone considering the future use of LED fixtures or replacement LED elements (bulbs) for existing incandescent fixtures. My thanks to everyone for posting your thoughts. This is a great forum.
