Hello friends New here as far as posting have lurking for awhile.I fish out of Bodega bay,ca.

I have a long time fisherman showing me the ropes. As we were setting up everything he did not like the looks of the 40# ball on his side.We fished a couple

times caught a couple but the bite was on around us with 20 -50+ .

so Bob ( my Partner) changed the ball on his side it had a slight reddish tint that day 14 11on his side 3 on mine.that night we changed my ball and we caught 20 11 on his and 9on mine.

My question is is this lead bad can i recycle for sinkers 2# 2.5#s or add and make 50#

and what is in the lead to make bad and reddish ( iron)

Old timer has said when hit with a hammer they will ring (sing) these we took off do sound different.

You likely do have iron in your weights, but more important is the voltage in the line. Do some research on this. I fixed the problem on my boat by getting a Russel Black Box (out of Victoria, BC) I did a meger test on my boat and found some electrical leaks, then we made sure all grounds were good, insulating my gurdies and then ran power to them directly. Now I control the power going to the line. You can also get a cheaper model Scotty - the Black Box. Both of these control the voltage going down the line. On the Russel unit I can control the difference or differential between the naturally occuring voltage around the boat and the lines, then set what I want the lines to be, but I think the most important is the line having a positive voltage and the Scotty can do that for you. For Kings or Chinook, it is recommended to be plus .062 of a volt and I concur this is best.

Good Luck
