taking care of our ocean

A couple of days ago while trolling a place near the open ocean, I came across 2 floating cylindrical 3ft by 4 ft styrofoam floats. They are no doubt the beginnings of the debris field to come from the devastating tsunami that hit Japan last year. I pick these 2 up and brought them to the dock. Today, I picked up 2 more, and had to leave 3 more behind because I had no more room. There was also an assortment of other junk. Lots of smaller styro floats, plastic containers, etc.

friends, do us all a favor and pick this junk up where you can. These big styrofoam floats like the ones I've been bringing in are an ecological bomb, each one. Once they get to the beach, rocks, bears, and birds literally turn each one into one million tiny pieces. The wind does the rest.

So please, take a few minutes when you see it and help round it up. Thanks.

There is a woman in Craig who has a grant to pick the beaches of debris. She has a Eco-tour business of her own and employs her husband and his Sunfiord to haul all the junk to shore. Just wondering if the floats your finding are pictured in the link I posted in "Off Topic Discussions" sub titled "Tsunami Trash or Treasures"?
