My Father-in-law came into a quantity of old spoons some 40+ years ago. I thought for a while they were mostly or all the #8 superiors, but it turns out there was quite a variety of new and used gear. Some of the stash I'll be offering for sale, but not before making this hat-in-hand inquiry about what I got, what they might be useful for, how best to fish them, and what experience you folks might have with these.
So here's what I got:
#5 Superiors - some brass, some cu/brass
#5 Canadian - a bunch painted, some brass
#5 LG Johnson - a bunch painted
#7 PTH (I hadn't heard of this one - it's a touch narrower than a Wonder, a bit flatter, and looks pretty good) - cu/brass, qty 2
#6 1/2 McMahon, a bunch cu/brass, and a bunch brass
#7 Wonder, some cu/brass, some brass (new)
#6 JHS ( I hadn't heard of these - profile similar to wonder but a bit broader overall, sharper at front than back, relatively flat overall profile, but some swoopy/curvy wrinkles stamped into the spoon) - a bunch with bad paint, a bunch in brass. I like the look of these to use alongside current tomic, oki'i, etc. herring and pilchard imitators
#7 JHS, 4 in cu/brass (new)
#8 McMahon, 16 cu/brass (new)
#7 McKnight, one in cu/brass
#7 1/2 Pacific (hadn't seen this one - similar shape as McMahon with a few wrinkles), 2 in brass
#6 Superior, a few painted
#7 superior, 5 in cu/brass, 12 in brass
#6 McMahon 3 in cu/brass
#2 PTH Wobbler / Gibbs Egg Wobbler (same shape and weight), 25 in cu/brass
#7 Fisco (like McMahon) , 2 in cu
#7 Miller - only a couple of these
#7 McMahon, 7 in cu/brass, 7 in chrome/brass, and 3 in brass
Finally, #8 McMahon, 31 in Cu/brass, 62 in gold bronze, 11 brass, 6 that are ratty painted.
Some are in better shape than others. Lots are new. Only a few are *really* tarnished.
Anyhow, I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences on these. And sorry for the long post.
Thanks,
Jerry
