How soon will AMSEA begin to include the CPR - first aid classes required under law; 46 CFR 28.210? ( http://law.justia.com/cfr/title46/46-1.0.1.3.20.html ). Also will AMSEA be offering for sale the test kits for drug/alcohol, injury @ sea, at the classes? A one stop shopping page/ class for ALL requirements would be a help. I'd think that the USCG would want to help us be in compliance and this could increase the amount of the grant AMSEA is given by USCG. Remember AMSEA's mission statement is; Reduce injury and death in the marine and freshwater environment through education and training provided by a network of qualified marine safety instructors.

Your points are well received. AMSEA's mission statement is limited by our funding. It is not an effective use of our funds at this time to provide training such as first aid which is usually available locally from other sources. This would be inefficient and also put us in a position of competing with local training resources (AHA, Red Cross etc) that are already available. Therefore we spend our limited resources on training that is not available locally- fishermen's safety & survival courses (that can also prevent the injuries from happening). Since not many other resources are available for the required Drill Conductor training that is required, that training has been our emphasis.

We have not gotten into the drug and alcohol testing equipment market because it is available from others sources and we do not want to compete in the equipment and supplies market, which also take our very finite resources away from survival training. Although a one-stop shopping website would be convenient, we are also very hesitant about selling supplies or equipment (immersion suit, EPIRBs etc) because it leads to a loss in credibility from the public that we are "pushing" or favoring a certain brand of equipment (or alcohol test kit). We do not promote any brands because of this.

We will keep your comments under advisement however and reconsider your suggestion as circumstances and budget permit. Thanks for your suggestion.
