The forrest service has decided to delay the decision to remove the shelter/cover from White Sulfer while they collect more information from local stakeholders. Apparently, the appeal of cultural/historical value has opened their eyes to the notion that locals would prefer the structure to remain in place. Attached is the form they emailed to me today. I've attached it to this post so that hopefully others can also print, fill out and submit.
I consider White Sulfer a historical landmark and part of our culture. It simply would not be the same without the bath house structure. If anyone else has an opinion on it please let the forrest service know. Thanks.

"Use it or lose it"is what applies here.Pick up your reading glasses, pen or computer and write something to the Forest Service, your thoughs, personnel knowedge about the cultural, historical and safety aspects of White Sulphur. This is one step on leaning on the FS to help them see what this area means to us.The FS as you can read in attachments has made a desecion to build a new cabin, wood shed, outhouse and some trail work. The bathhouse is on the chopping block,in fact it has already been chopped out and throw in the gut bucket. The FS is giving us another chance to prove up on our claims.
To me the bathhouse is part and parcel of the other improvements at White Sulphur. It is a place of historical importants, its part of our cultural makeup "a cultural icon"of folks of Northern SE AK.and others and it has value as a shelter in our safety.
This isn't the big bad FS they are trying to work with us here. Now the balls in our court so hit the dam thing would ya.

Hey, speaking to the issue of emergency shelter; I am remembering something I heard 30 years ago about a man who survived several days out in the elements by relying on a nearby hot spring when he got hypothermic. I think it was the "Iron Man" Henry Aryana (sp?).
My apologies if I have these details wrong, I am relying on an old memory here and could be way off base. Just thinking if we could point to an instance where a hot spring saved a life, it would be pertinent in our comments.

Oso Pete had a harrowing time in the WS area when his boat the Oso got blown on the rocks in the west arm of Mirror Harbor.More on that later.
