Looking at the fish and game website.. it looks like trollers were shorted about 20,000 kings. As if most didn't know that would happen.

at approx. 14lb avg @ $3.50 lb. that shorts trollers over... ONE MILLION DOLLARS !!! and during a year of high fuel prices and inflating prices on just about everything.

thanks afg

The second Chinook salmon retention period was opened from August 15–17 to target the approximately 27,764 remaining fish within the 2011 Chinook accounting year. Final harvest and effort statistics will not be available until later this month, but preliminary totals indicate an estimated harvest of 21,196 fish by 500 permits. Average weights for this opening were similar to the first, 12.8 pounds, however the average price per pound decreased to $3.60. Though weather conditions were bad during the first day and a half of the fishery, some portions of the region were still very productive, and the department anticipates that the target harvest for this opening was taken.

Hi All:

There is still no 'final-final' number on the August Chinook fishery, but I want to assure you that we did take all of our allocation. Here's a quick overview of where all the commercial Chinook fisheries are at as of 9-9-11, based on discussions with ADFG. Will also include below the most current troll coho and chum totals.

2011 All Gear Treaty Chinook Quota: 294,800

seine 12,676

driftnet 8,549

setnet 1,000

Dale,

Thank you so much for the solid information. Good to know that we caught the Chinook quota, were above the 20 year average on coho, and caught what looks like a record number of troll chums.

Alas, for me, it was one of my worst years income wise in recent years as the weather minimized my time on the coast, the chum pie was sliced thinner than ever, Deep Inlet chums failed, and the coho were tiny. Nevertheless it was a great summer working with my partners and crew.

Looks like a very interesting winter of meetings ahead.
