Saints Rest

I just bought Louie's boat "Nirvana" as his health is not so good. I love this glass Monteray Clipper but it does have issues. One thing I've tried to figure out without luck is why is there a grease zirt right on the top of the brake! The gurdies work fine and are obviously dry, but what is the purpose??? I asked an old timer up in Pt. Protection who also has 3 spool Eastrope gurdies and he had no idea either. Anyone have experience with them and know what they are for? If a picture would help, I could get one posted by tomorrow. Thanks

I take the zerk or zirk grease fitting off the brake and use them for spares on the shaft.

Some times the brake gets a bit sticky from being warped or when it is hot and dry. A little grease helps keeps things smooth. Fresh water also helps. Salt water works but then you have a film of salt water on your gurdies which when it dries leaves a film of salt on your gurdies and mounts which conducts voltage and reduces your isolation. Remember to use food grade grease on all your gurdie zirts as you have leaching onto your deck/fish.
Hope this helps.
