I found a boat that I'm really interested in and it has a Detroit 471 in it. Just wondering what type of soundproofing you have used to keep the noise in the engine room. If I purchase the boat it will take me a few years to save up to get something quieter. I'm hoping there is a band-aid solution in the near term though.

Since that good asbestos wrap was banned-nothing really works.

I worked at Townsend Bay Marine in Port Townsend for awhile and we used some panels on those big Yacht's made of thin Aluminum with lots of tiny holes like peg board and was backed by a dence foam and lead tin , cant remember what it is called but i think some one could do the same thing with peg board over the sound barrier , the engineers said the holes defusses the noise and then is asorbed in the foam rubber lead , i also built some King crab boats and some of them used cork on foil covered pink foam . just some ideas that i have encountered ,my little boat has a 3-53 and once its up and running i am going to exsperament with those ideas myself. :D
