Look for an announcement from ADFG after 2pm today announcing the opening MONDAY (4/25) of 12 spring areas. Listen/read carefully, because things are a little different than normal. This is what I THINK will be announced, but again, pay careful attention to the news release.
Two areas near Pelican and Hoonah will be closed that typically open early - this is only due to the departure of two port samplers this month. ADFG is working to get those positions filled and will open the fisheries ASAP. Port samplers are crucial to the openings, since the spring fishery is based on Alaska hatchery fish.
One new area has been added to the 7 day a week openings opening on MONDAY - Steamer Point.
The other hatchery areas will open after May 1 - additional news releases and a management plan will be published with specific information. Check with your local ADFG office, or visit:
