Buying the SE hand troll permit questions.

Is there a particular permit I need or just a basic SE Ak permit. Just wondering if I would be prohibited certain openings if I did not have the right permit. I plan on being within a days outing from Sitka most of the time. I see some permits called AK hand troll permits with no specific location for sale as well... confusing. If I do find somebody to sell the permit, will I be able to fish it within a month, or is more time involved?

Thanks for you input. I am thinking about taking some action on this idea finally!

Hello:

If you own a troll permit and have the legal/required gear onboard, you will be able to participate in all troll fishery openings.

Permits are 'statewide', but the troll fishery is limited to SE at this time (Dixon Entrance to Cape Suckling). There is more area open in the summer fishery than in spring and winter, so pay close attention to the regulation book and the annual troll management plan. Both are available at Alaska Department of Fish & Game. Also check the USCG safety requirements.

Good luck!
