Hi All:

I'm hoping some of you will act on the suggestion below of ways to honor Senator Dick Eliason through contributions to things dear to his heart. Feel free to paste into an email and share with others.

Also, it would be great for those that knew him to chime in on this thread with stories, pictures, and thoughts about this great man. It's important that we not forget someone who was such a big part of Alaska's history, and also our troll family. I'm sure his family would enjoy any recollections you care to share.

Fair winds...

I have been trying to think of something that ATA can do as a small tribute to Senator Eliason, who, I hope you all know, passed away last week. He was the first official recipient of the Friend of the Fleet award (Gary Slaven got the proto-type as a thank you), and we also got him added to the first round of UFA Hall of Famers.

In discussing the matter with a family member, it was suggested that one good thing would be to suggest contributions made in his honor to the following two organizations:

Betty Eliason Child Care Center

607 Lincoln St.

Sitka, AK 99835

Sitka Science Center

Sheldon Jackson Hatchery - It was specifically noted that any fish raised here benefit every fisherman who wets a hook.

834 Lincoln St # 20

Sitka, AK 99835

I sure hope you'll consider this as you review your charitable contributions. Dick did so much for our fishing family!

And, if you have ideas for other types of memorials, please let me know.

Take care.
