f/v holy family

I know it's bad luck to change the name of the boat but for many years now I've been wanting to change the name of my boat from the Holy Family to the Famiglia Santa, which means exactly the same thing, in Italian. I have personal reasons for this that I won't go into here, but if anyone cares to give me 2 cents I'm listening.

Nope, can't be done. We are working with forces we don't fully understand. I suggest a full flushing of the bad Jue-Jue. Several rituals all designed to ward off the bad karma the boat inherently picks up during its life. I personally believe in a good dock party, open and closing all valves, starting all equipment including stove and heater, and working all gear(make sure to clear the bilge and fish holds), touching the 4 directions and abeam, climbing the mast to touch the anchor light when lit, throwing a person overboard and fishing them out with safety equipment (at the dock during the party), a couple IN LOVE kiss in the foci`sle, then saying the old name 3 separate times ringing a bell in-between each then saying the new name and taking a drink as a toast 3 separate times ringing a bell and last of all, giving a libation to all attending and one for Davy Jones. Last, chalk out the old name, remove all traces of the old name on board(take ships log and such off the boat until the new name is written on the transom). Then and only then can you reveal to the boat any documents with the new name or the name spoken within hearing distance of the sea. In all haste, paint the new name as appropriate. This seems to work quite well. Don't mess with that which we don't know. I figure any act of supplication will work, but a good dock party makes it an event!

It's bad luck to be superstitious!
