Earlier this week in Sit News I read a Viewpoint "THE PLIGHT OF WEST BEHN CANAL" By Andy Rauwolf, Snapper Carson and Mike Fleenor. Jan 31. 2011. What a read! If we all truly wanted to preserve and protect our fishery and have the returns of Salmon their once was we should protect the herring and close the herring fishing in West Behm Canal.

With the combined commerical fishing experience of these three fisherman of 133 years in SE. I think we should listen to them and call our representatives and tell them to permanently close West Behm Call to herring fishing.

In the letter it states that they closed the herring fishing in Wrangell Narrows years ago, those who know how that turned out should understand why we here in Ketchikan want to close WBC.

We all want stronger and larger returns of fish for many more year. Like what I read about in the 30's and 40's, taking away their main food source will not help at all. Not to mention all the predators around here.

Other than a terminal hatchery and a catch and release (herring pounding), when has any roe fisheries been a good idea?
