There a good article in ADN and Fishwrap( Fisherman's news) about the value of SE Alaska salmon resource.its something we as fisherman already knew, the great value of the salmon resource. Its good to see it broadcast in the mainstream news for folks that don't realize the impact salmon has in our coastal communities.

I was talking to friend about the values of good habitat and mentioned having good habitat and healthy salmon runs are like money in the bank.Right now those little guys are overwintering in the river.Waiting for their que to repopulate the north Pacific.

We turned the tide in SE.My hat is off to the many who worked hard to create a better model of ecosystem health. Its paid of for all the harvesters be it fisherman or the critters.

This wouldn't of happened if fisherman and ADF&G hadn't worked together on resource usage I believe. We've come a long way baby. But thats only part of the whole picture and worth another New Topic sometime.

A few months ago here in Norway there was a major article printed in the most widely distributed magazine here called "A Magasin" that asked the question, " Why is it that only Alaska has a sustainable and healthy wild salmon run?" They compared AKs salmon to Norways disaster as well as a few other countries that used to recently have relatively healthy salmon runs. In the end, it came down to management and lack of fish farming...just as John mentioned. I am very proud to be an AK fisherman...

Just as a side not and something to think about...it is HIGHLY illegal to catch a slamon in Norway...highly regulated!
