Ketchikan City Council robbed the raw fish tax to fund two police officers, what an outrage. The fishing industry was once the number two industry in Ketchikan but now we are second class citizens. Why did they not take the money from the tourism industry?
I must say I am totaly speachless by this use of raw fish tax.

Does anyone know the history of raw fish tax. Was the intent and distribution of the funds written down at the time that it was put into law. Was the tax meant to be reinvested in fishing infrastructure.

Tom,
Policemen needed to control unruly chum trollers from Sitka who are rumored to party heartily in ports of call. Dancing and karaoke nicknames like "Twinkletoes", and "The Boss". Obviously a wise expenditure of Fish Tax Funds in preparation for the hundreds of trollers heading to Neets Bay next summer.
I am sure the present Ketchikan police, used to dealing with seine and gillnet crews and the occasional rowdy charter client, needs both additional personnel, training, and equipment in anticipation.
Juneau should follow suit in anticipation of chum trollers moving into 11A.
Chum trollers, a group who advances into a 6:00 am opening at 1.5 knots. A real threat to domestic tranquility.
We have a subcommittee working on "Chum Troll Etiquette". I will pass this on.

Lamenting anything Ketchikan elected officials do is bait for mirth. Besides, I have family history, my father was a Ketchikan policeman.

Eric
Good one, I forgot how rowdy those chum trollers are and jeez all the revenue that the city would miss by not ticketing those lightening fast chum trollers for exceeding the drag speed. Sheesh we might need another officer.
