In the "Guide to Practical Outboard Skiff Designs" the author references a Salmon Trolling Skiff originally featured on page 301 of Harry V. Suchers 1973 book entitled "Simplified Boatbuilding - the flat bottomed boat". Has anyone out there built a salmon skiff from the height and half breadth info provided by Mr. Sucher? Are any detailed plans for the skiff still available? I looked the book up on Amazon and there were only two copies available. They were quite expensive considering all I'm looking for is the pages applicable to this particular boat, Can anyone Help me out.

Pete,

My grandfather had a dory at Pacific Beach, he even bought a lot 2 blocks back from the beach to build

a garage for it. He didn't troll commercially though, just fun/sport. All along the Oregon coast there

are dorys all over the place. Some are made to "design" some are just "made". Probably takes some

knowledge/expertiese to defy which. If you are along the coast you should have NO problem finding

all sorts of designs, builders, and many used ones for sale. Most of the modern ones (post 70s)

don't have the older outboard enclosed in the a "well", with the influx of bigger engines they

started making them with the motors mounted on the transom. Go to pacific beach, now with

the season wide open (no trip limits) you can see them comming in/going out. Its pretty

cool to see. Be nice, and I'm sure you can chat up a wealth of info. Books sometimes seem overpriced

but the info inside can often be of great value.

ALSO: search "outboard hydraulics" on here, there was somone who posted about that and they ran dorys off

Oregon, probably knows a wealth of info.

Pete,

Sorry about that, Its Pacific City, my mom's family is from the coast and I always heard it as "beach" meaning

the "city" was a few blocks up. Its the beach at Pacific City.
