Rebuild of Dancing Girl
August of ’06: Towed to Halibut Point Marine and determined to be sound enough for rebuilding. Trucked by lowboy to 102 Darren Drive, covered with a framed shed, and the cabin removed. Vessel stripped to the hull.
’07: Rebuild continued. Hull determined to be free of any dry rot. Hull planking Cypress on oak frames. Originally built 1943 by the U.S. Navy. Frames fastened with copper rivets. Yellow cedar decks rebuilt where necessary and deck framing beefed up for anchor winch forward.
’08: Wheelhouse lofted on the hull and window framing cut from yellow cedar and installed. Engine (Isuzu 4BD1), shafting, fuel tanks (100 gal. total) and water tanks (50 gal.) installed.
’09: Interior finished with mahogany marine plywood, windows installed, wiring mostly completed. Exterior of hull completely sanded and bottom painting done. Launched in August. Rigging for power trolling started.
’10: Trolling rigging completed, anchor winch installed. Electronics installed. Trolled out of Port Armstrong summer of ’10. No mechanical difficulties experienced.
Total cost of rebuild September ’10 is $73,500.00. All receipts are available and can be provided on request.
