Looking for someone to help me out of a mess. Boat is impounded in Ketchikan and paying back moorages will free it. I sold it three years ago and buyer has defaulted, skipped on moorage payments, etc.....Will take $20,000 OBO plus paying back moorages of about $3700. This is the grand old lady of the fleet, built in 1891 and still going. I owned her for 26 years, raised the kids on it and put countless thousands into it. I can't speak to her present condition so if you are interested you will need to find someone in Ketchikan to check it out. Most of you reading this know the boat because she has been in the fleet for decades. Sorry I can't seem to post pictures on here but I have some I could e-mail. Call me, e-mail me. Help........

I will look through my files to see if I have a picture of the "Mayflower", a great boat. I saw her fishing at Neets Bay last summer and know she was catching then.

I believe the Mayflower is wood encased in fiberglass.

There we go, I think that worked. What a great opportunity for someone to put in a little elbow grease and get started. I know Adam Hackett bought the Illahee last year, put in some elbow grease, and had a great time fishing her this summer.
Thanks Salty, for posting those great pictures. She's a beaut, and 1891! Wow that's awesome.

I should probably provide a little history about the fiberglassing history of this boat. We bought her in 1980. Her former owner had pulled her out of the water in about the early 70's, in Jamestown Bay here in Sitka, and glassed her with an unknown number of layers of mat and roving. Evidently he did a pretty good job because there are only a couple of voids which were identified in a survey three years ago and can be remedied by pumping them full of epoxy. I have that survey. In about 1983, we hauled the boat, had the hull sand blasted to clean fiberglass, and had seven layers of heavy mat and roving laid up over the old work from the waterline down and boxed the keel. Yard operator commented on how stiff the boat felt when he lifted it after that. The wood hull inside the glass always seemed pretty good to me. I drilled it several times for thru-hulls, etc. and places I drilled seemed plenty solid. So even though fiberglassing these old hulls is unorthodox this particular one seems to have "taken." This boat was a derelict in 1970 and the fiberglassing has kept her going strong for another 40 years............
Thanks for the additional information on the fiberglassing of the hull. Sounds like the job was done right.
What a wonderful example of history and workmanship.

I have had reports back this week that the boat is in very poor shape and that someone has dismantled the engine - it's sitting in pieces in the engine room. There is a patch on the starboard side which will need considerable work to make right, too. One wheelhouse window has been broken out and the interior is moldy. So I am not able to ask any money for the boat. I understand that it will be auctioned sometime around the end of February and at present there are $3900 in back moorages due. If someone wanted to pay that prior to the auction date, they could contact me and I would gladly sign over the document. Too bad - a terrible end to a great boat with 120 years of service behind her if nobody does anything with her.

Sorry to hear that Dave. What a shame, damn near a crime.
