Whats the deal on renewing your federal permit (ocean)? I just got a renewal notice and can't make heads or tails of what the hell it is about. I used to longline but don't anymore. I never got one of those permits with value (forgot what they call em).
I guess I am asking if Trollers need to have a federal permit for fishing in outside waters.

It depends. If you wish to keep any rockfish outside of 3 miles or have on board any rockfish when outside of 3 miles then you will want to renew your federal fisheries permit when trolling for salmon. It's a free permit and better safe than sorry!
