When you get your check, consider this. This money bought 15% of your summer king salmon quota. This is the final payment of the settlement. If you stand any chance of ever getting the 15% back, there's only one organization out there fighting for that cause, ATA. Are they going to try and take any more fish away from us? Who knows, but I personally wouldn't be surprised. Once again, there's only one organization fighting for you at the treaty, the ATA.
ATA isn't a government funded organization. It's run for trollers, with trollers donated money. So, you get out of something, what you put into it. If you want a strong, healthy organization that can meet the political battles head on, now's the time to put some money down.
Consider putting some of your mitigation money back into the cause of getting your fish back, or consider it an insurance policy towards loosing anymore. Treaty is one of many battles being fought to keep our fishery safe and viable.
Make a donation, become a member, show up to meetings and be heard. Thank you.
Thanks, Casey.
Just to clarify... there will be one more mitigation payment under this program. Next year you will receive an application for the 2012 season. The only reason we did two years this round is because the program changed a bit and we had to go through the full regulatory process. That took more time than expected, so you didn't get an application last year.
Don't forget to get those applications sent in! May 13th is the deadline. If you didn't get one, first look for the other post on this site that lists names of those whose applications were returned to CFEC. And, if you're on the list, or think you should have gotten an application for 2010-2011 seasons, then contact CFEC right away! If you see someone you know on the list, give them a courtesy call.
