Good comments Dale. All the hard work and meetings you have been going to on these issues should help in producing a better approach to Aquaculture Policies.
I guess its water underneath the bridge for many area's in the states in regards to habitat. But we still have a chance up here.I know its rather simplictic to just say its "the habitat stupid". But in truth if we would have taken better care of the habitat back when, we might now need to produce our way into food security now. Many of us know about problem areas because we grew up around them.I spent a lot of time on the Chesapeake Bay growing up.Over the years the Bay has produced a great deal of seafood for the east coast. It has the potential to produce much more if the habitat was still intact. The habitat there is compromised for many reasons. You add the Bay to the growing number of compromised habitat areas around the country and what do you get.Not enough seafood to feed us or the world.
So now we move to the off shore frontier. Will we do it right or is this a repeat of past mistakes?
Again thanks Dale for being a leader on this.
