I was looking at Dale's post and thinking about all the good work ATA does and why my dues are worth it. I got so enthusiastic about the good work ATA was doing for us that I paid my dues twice last year.
As I get ready for fishing this April I was thinking of the fact that just a few years ago ATA supported a proposal to extend the winter season until we caught the guideline winter harvest range, 43-47,000 or May 1st, whichever came first. This extended the season in years when we hadn't caught the quota from April 14- May 1. For many of us full time trollers this single act by ATA has been worth a lifetime of memberships.
So, I challenge you ATA members who read this to point out just one reason why being a member of ATA is worth your dues.
For those of you who are not yet members and decide to join, encourage others by posting why you decided sign up.

Lets see
1) I am still fishing after 37 years of being told I am in a dinasor industry I go to sea every year and catch fish to feed the world and I make a living at it.
2) The world is a very dangerous place for trollers yet there is an orginization that looks out for my interests and that is ATA.
3) We live in the modern world and there is not only a need but it is almost mandatory that industries have a political arm and guess what fellow trollers we are an industry.
4) An imediate reward of ATA is 54,000 more kings.
5) We as a fleet are getting an outstanding deal in relation to how much work Dale Kelley does for us compared to how much she is being compensated, we could pay her double and it woiuld still be a deal.
6) Charterboats, Seiners,Gillnetters and the goverment ( I know that is 4 reasons), while running the Carol W thru Johnstone strait last fall I heard a couple canandian trollers talking and I joined the conversation and mentioned that every time a troller turns around somebody is trying to put us out of business, they both agreed. If you look around we are the most viable fleet of trollers still fishing so back to reason #1 I am still fishing.
I urge every troller to send your dues in if you are a coop member it can be put on your gear accont, ATA needs your dues and you need ATA.
