I tend to try and include links to information i collect and run across that i think is relevant. but it clutters up posts.

I would rather put info links in a section than in the Troller talk. thanks for setting this place up.

If you can gather all of your links together and organize them, post them here and then I'll create a new area for them.

Thanks,

Jon

Here are a few links that one can do some arm-chair trolling through. A cup of joe goes well with any of these.

http://www.boat-links.com/boatlink.html This site is listed as The Mother Of All Maritime Links. It is loaded with all things related to the maritime industry.

wwwtest.astoria.k12.or.us/gallery/albums.php (this site does not have a "dot" after the www so it most likely may need to be copied down and manually loaded up, it's well worth the effort) Listed as Historic Fishing Vessels, a site with literally thousands of historic photos of commercial fishing vessels of which many are still plying our waters.

http://www.hazegray.org/navhist/canada/fm/ For those of you who are fans of Farley Mowats books Grey Seas Under and The Serpent's Coil about Foundation Maritime's deep sea rescue/salvage tugs Foundation Franklin and Foundation Josephine, this is your site.

Hope you enjoy these as I have, if there is trouble loading them up send me a PM, I'll do my best to assist. Thanks to all who have contributed to this web site, it continues to be a great resource for us all.

Last October I started this site and have been adding almost every day. I have lots more to put up. It is intended for an audience that's curious what it takes and feels like to restore a vintage derelict troller time after time after time.

Great Site!

Nice long history on the Tacora. The salvage story was fascinating.

Thanks.

I feel fortunate meeting my mentor, and his sharing of my boat's past. Too much history of our old wood boats goes down the memory hole when it should be inspiring.

I wrote resolutions on Bering Sea trawl salmon by-catch for Bering Sea groups when I was working for AMCC. I remember drafting one in the back seat of a cab. Do you know that there are no limits on trawl size in the Pollock fishery in the Bering Sea? If you could tow one a mile across it would be legal I believe. Actually I have not been involved for some time so it is possible someone actually defined Bering Sea Pollock trawl size in regulation, but I kind of doubt it.

We did help get a regulation, with the unanimous support of the United Fishermen of Alaska Board of Directors, to take the trawls off of the bottom in the Bering Sea Pollock fishery. The fact that it is virtually unenforceable and often violated is kind of troublesome. Nevertheless it helped reduce crab and halibut by-catch.

Put those trawls right up in the mid-water where those salmon hang out. Sure glad we kicked them out of SE. (Comment deleted in the interests of good taste.)
