I am researching an opportunity to start the King and Coho Season this year. I am Green as can be, commercially, with some experience, but not much.....
I am looking at Salmon Trolling in the SE......
What should I expect? Hours...... Pay....... Trips...... ?
Any info welcome......thanks!

Thanks for the Forum, I am learning a lot about this industry! I appreciate the tips and other information. I am green to Commercial, but have sport trolled out of Seward with a friend who is a family member of Commercial Trollers, and the only reason I had to come back to port was that we had limited out and couldn't fish anymore......! Learned a lot from him as well..... I am eagerly looking to work this Summer and see if I fit in. I am available from end of May thru July, and interested in trolling in the SE....... not sure I would be wanted to be a deckhand on Charters, but would be glad to discuss.....any comments, info, advice, even criticism.......appreciated....

Ok! Thanks for all the info! Trolling is what I think I want to do, but willing to start anywhere...
Yes, presently, I am not available "thru" September and I understand the disadvantage of that, but I am still eager and willing to try this. June and July are good, and I am still working on August, So, please tell me more..... I have this time and want to work and make a little money doing something I love...
Where should I go to start looking? Ketchikan, Sitka, Juneau, Hoonah, other...? I can be in AK the last week of May, but where would be the place to start? Walking a Dock? Should I start at Processing for a couple months? I can op a forklift and I do a little construction...should I look into loading/unloading? Will I be passed over as a Non-Resident? I would hope to have this be recurring employment....
What should I bring with me, what should I get once I am there...? Living quarters while looking? While working?
Again... any advice or criticism is welcome...

Once again, Thanks Salty! SPC seems a great place to start for someone that cannot be there for the full season right now....and so I submitted an initial Application......
Sitka is beautiful and fairly (availabley [ ? sp? is that a word? ]) close to where my friends live in Hoonah.... and I look forward to the opportunity to get to AK and work.
As I read that back to myself....I realize that it sounds a little nutty..... or that it might to some people..... but I have just finished an 80+ hour week at a job that my Administrators think can be done in 40........ and I love this job.......but I love to fish even more! And thanks to This Job......I get to have the time off in the Summer to pursue my dream.....
Thanks to everyone for the advice........keep it coming! Love the pics....! :D
