I am looking at getting into the fishing business as a mental break from my current occupaiton (pharmacy, the legit one). My question is on the AK power troll permit. My hope is to run the boat most of the time during the summer, but I will need to head home periodically to tend to the other business. In this case can one of the other crew run the boat? or do I need to be on board any time the boat is fishing?

The permit holder needs to be onboard for almost all of the commercial fisheries in Ak. There is a medical transfer option, but it is usually for the whole season and I think a permit can only have 3 medical transfers total. Refer to ADFG's website ( http://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=fishlicense.main ) for general commercial fishing regs.

The Commercial fisheries Entry Commision site ( http://www.cfec.state.ak.us/mnu_Forms.htm#transferforms ) for permit specifics.

Of course you can be a dentist for awhile, just get your 4 year bachelor fo science degree, then take some qualifying exams that get you accepted into an accredited four year dentistry program, complete that and then you are on your way to being a dentist! 8-)

I'm a highly experienced real estate developer... I either need to learn to catch fish or flip burgers. Do you want fries with that?
